Explanation of hating Lily Evans!

19. Why do you hate Lily Evans (all Potters) so much and declare her as b****?

Well I was asked that question often and actually it explains itself if you have read the books, but ok.
I try to explain this in detail ( I built up my mind on the basic of these few moments that were described in the book. And Yes I think that these are more or less a mirror of Lilys or the other characters general behaviour.)::::

I.) Lily Evans as the 'best friend' of Severus Snape doesn't care really much.

Here we can see that Lily asks a few questions about his private life, but right after that she wants to know more about the dementors. She seems not highly interested in what is going on at home and how his family is. Snape shows clear tendences that he's happy to leave his home and his arguing partens. It should be for someone like Lily, who seemed to like her own parents very much, more disturbing to be happy to get away from them. But well dementors are more intersting... And yes they were young, but there is no proof that she ever cared more about his private life when they got older. For more explanations red this point and point IV.

Is she really asking Severus what's Potter got to do with anything and why he is so obsessed with them?? Wasn't she aware of the many pranks that where played by the Marauders? Didn't she knew about the occasions that Potter and his friends made his life harder? She wants to be his so called friend, but does she really know what he has to live trough with these Gryffindors? Of course whe have no written proof that James and Sirius were mean to him, but they started to call him Snivellus and tried to trip him even before their first year started. They hated each other from first sight and from 'later' talks we can conclude that they buyllied Severus for fun more than one time. So why didn't she seem to know about it when she was his 'best friend'?

She had heard of the fact that her 'best friend' was in mortal danger and she didn't seem to be troubled one bit. She didn't even ask him about the incident! She didn't ask him what has he done, what's down there that is so dangerous, she just pointed out that James Potter, the great heroic Gryffindor, has saved his life and he should be bloody thankful for that. Wasn't she wondering what this whole thing is about, why didn't she wanted to know what was going on and how could it be, that Sirius seemed not to be punished for his try to kill a student? Because if he would have been punished by Dumbledore or if they even loosed an amount of points, then everyone even Lily would have asked about that. If it would be clear, that Black was be the boy who brought a pupil in this mortal danger, than I expect Lily to not be so calm and to demand thankfulness from Severus!

Now her 'best friend' is badly humilated in front of a whole croud which is laughing and she is not only nearly smiling, she continues just to say 'Let him down!' instead of acting. If it would be the same situation with Harry, Ron and Draco then I could swear Ron would do more than just demand Draco to stop. He would make him stop hexing Harry! But in this case she repeats herself only by saying 'Leave him alone' or 'Let him down!' It needs 5 attacks from James and Sirius together against Snape who was alone and only had the chance for one strike back and only then she pulls out her wand. I would have helped my friend much earlier and more eagerly than she did!
Another point that she didn't cared much about what was happening to him, was when he has insulted her and she has insulted him back and then she leaves. She leaves him in the hands of a furious James Potter who would be cruel enough to humilate Snape to the last bit and would pull off his underpants. Of course she was angry at this moment with Severus and she was hurt, but it didn't interested her what would happen to him.

She made excuses for her 'best friend'?  She can't pretend anymore? Have I missed something when it comes down to a friendship?
I don't know why do you have to 'explain' or to 'excuse' your friends in front of others but when I have to pretend to be good friends with someone, I'm not calling myself his/her 'best friend'. That's not right, it's deceitful and more an attidude for a Slytherin, but not for such a nice and caring girl who is intelligent, lovely and helps everyone who needs her help (Sorry but I have read enough comments where she is described as this holy samatarian, that I can find nowhere in the books). Another point is that it was the first time he called her Mudblood, so the first really bad mistakes (I don't doubt that he had made many little before, but who hasn't?) and she was not willing to give him another chance. She didn't discussed that out and tried to find a solution for this whole problem. She made it very easy for herself and broke up the friendship.

Yes, James stopped hexing others, besides Snape and yes he on the other side did attack James, too. But there is a difference between defending himself and hexing him back. So Potter continued his treatment with the Slytherin and Lily was 'OK' with that. Sirius says it himself: She didn't know TOO MUCH about it, but that implies that she was aware of it and ignored it. It's more than a year ago that she was so badly insulted and so she could have calmed down a bit. But she's still not interested in what is happening to her former 'best friend'. It seems she never considered to ask James to stop this whole thing or to talk to both and end this treatment.

When we are still at frequently asked questions, I have one, too: Where do people find the proof that Lily forgave Severus for his mistake? Where do they read that she tried to clear things up and tried to become friends with him again or that she was thankful when he changed sides and thanks to his informations the life of her and her family could be protected for some time? There is no word about Snape in her letter to Sirius or anywhere else. No hint that they ever had contact after Hogwarts or that they talked to each other during the rest of their school time. If you can't quote me a passage where I can found a proof for that, please don't try to convince me with your feelings and your believe.
She was nice to him, yes, but only nicer than others.


II.)  JKR said in an interview that Lily had 'feelings' for Severus, but how does it come that it's described like that she had an eye on Potter even before she broke up the friendship with the Slytherin? Cause in one moment she pretens to be his 'best friend' and in the same breath she's defending Potter and his actions.

Clearly defending the boy that bullies her 'best friend'. *turns on the irony* Yeah everybody would have to ask what Potter is doing and no one would know that he jinx people for the fun of it... It's completely normal for the 'best frienf' to not know what is going on in his life. *turns out the irony*

Hey Lily, I'm telling you that the Marauders are out of their beds at night, thats against the rules, but you don't care a bit! How does it come? Well I will come later to the point that she must be either completely ignorant or stupid to not think about Severus theory (look at point III.), but right after that she tries to change the subject again into the direction that she tries to defend the Marauders. Again and again, it's immaterial what he's saying but she always find a way to cut his argument off. (And again look at point III. for the explanation why I think that her reason with the Dark Magic is more than weak)

I may repeat myself, but well it's clear that she isn't troubled about her 'best friend' being in mortal danger, but that he is ungrateful is more important! Should Severus really be thankful to a boy who never did anything other than to make his life a hell? It's really impressing how much she cares about the fact that James havn't received a 'thank you'.

Or in other words: Yes I know that Potter is not so great, but hey Sev it's YOUR friends that are evil, not mine. Yours and yours alone, cause I'm the one to judge about these kind of things.

Yes very fine examples and 'proofs' that Lily seemed to hate James Potter, but excuse me but you can say much and in the end her actions showed how much she 'hated­' him. She married him and had a child with him.  You can't tell me that you want to be together with a man for your whole life that you learned only to love after he stopped hexing others. And as Sirius said: Quote from HP5, chap 29: >> 'How come she married him?' Harry asked miserably. 'She hated him!' 'Nah, she didn't,' said Sirius. << Of course Sirius could say this just to make it easier for Harry to believe it, but as I said, her actions showed pretty much how she really thought and felt about James. There had to be former interest or love that developed into that kind of love to marry someone.
And with that she was never really truthful to her 'best friend' and betrayed him before he even got the chance to insult her and sent her off. Probably his mistake was a relief for her, because from this moment on nobody would ask why she had broken up the friendship and date with the boy who bullied everybody. It wouldn't have been good for her image... One more thing that she has not to pretend anymore.


III.)  Everywhere in the books, when people talk about Lily, they say that she was such an intelligent witch. Did I miss something?

Uhhhhm sorry but Lily was during this conversation perhaps in her 4th or 5th year and Remus Lupin was a schoolmate of her. They shared the same common room and had the major classes together so they saw each other everyday! James, Sirius and Peter were wondering about Remus 'illness' very soon and also that he was a werewolf. Why didn't Lily saw the signs? Was she too blind to wonder about his many times absent? She knew about Severus theory what Lupin was and she never thought about that twice? She didn't even tried to pay more attention when Remus is missing? Why didn't she asked herself what was that thing that was so dangerous and that Severus followed? Wasn't she worried about the something down the tunnel?
Where is that so smart witch? Hermione knew about Lupin being a werewolf after less than a year! And Lily didn't got it after a couple of years??

The way Lily tries to explain why she don't like Mulciber shows me that she thinks he's evil because he used Dark Magic for playing tricks on others, while it is not evil to only bully someone for fun as Potter and his gang is doing with Snape. So it seems that playing pranks is nothing too bad for Miss Evans but that Dark Magic was used makes it evil, ergo this kind of magic must be evil.
But White and Black Magic aren't just good or bad. It's true that the nature of the Dark Arts is to cause harm but you can compare that to normale guns. Fireguns are dangerous and are mostly used for killing people and not so often only for defense. But the normal police is wearing and using this deadly weapon in order to protect the normal people. If you again compare the police with the Aurors then you can guess that they are also may be forced to use the Dark Arts against Death Eaters. But in this case they use a 'bad' spell for something 'good'. Harry does use two of the Unforgivable Curses during the seventh book when he tries everything to stop Voldemort and his men. And last but not least, Severus tried to save Remus Lupin's life with his Dark Mafic spell the Sectusempra! On the other side Ron knocked out a troll in his first year with a simple white spell, the Leviosa. He could have killed someone other by letting fall a giant rock on their heads and Harry stunned the Death Eaters that where following him on brooms during his escape from Little Whinging. He explains later to Remus that he didn't wanted to harm Stan Shunpike and that he could have died when he would have stunned him.
And we can see that not everyone who learns and uses Black Magic is evil, otherwise Viktor Krumm would be evil, too. He was from Durmstrang where they were teached the Dark Arts, but he was disgusted by cruel people such as Grindelwald or Voldemort. AndSo it isn't that magic that is good or bad but for what they are used. That was what Lily never seemed to understand. For her it was easier to see only black and white.

That were Voldemorts thoughts on the evening he attacked the Potters and they both were wandless (It must be stupidity to hear the door burst open and not to pick up his wand from the sofa where James was lying on... The wand was lying near to him and he tries to hold Voldemort back with nothing!). If she had carried her wand with her, she could have protected herself and her son better. Perhaps she could have apparated or sent a curse against the Dark Lord. But what was she doing intstead? She tries to barricade the door! If that would be a real barrier for Voldemort!

Finally for me it seems that she either was only good at school and in her classes or that everybody just wanted to say something nice and good about that heroic woman who sacrifed herself for her son. These actions were anything other than smart and in the end her stupidity to not carry her wand with her is transformed to heroism. Or as Snape stated it out on the train when he was talking about Gryffindors: >>"If you'd rather be brawny than brainy ... "<<


IV.) "But Lily was right and Severus was wrong with his point of view! So stop seeing her as b**** and him as an angel!" I DO know that she had a point and that it wasn't right to hate Muggles and Muggleborns! But the way she wanted to make him understand was the easy way and so the wrong one.
I would never say that Snape was a saint and all a victim! Of course I do love him. But I also love him for his flaws and that he wasn't perfect, that he made mistakes and only developed into being a better person, in the opposite to Miss Evans, even if she died for her son!

Of course I know that when he is young he is thinking that Muggles and Muggleborns are less worthy, but where, I ask, does this idea come from? Certainly not from his mother who married a Muggle, had a child with him and didn't get divorced from him (not as far as we know). It doesn't seem logical that she would teach her son to hate Muggles. So I guess he must had one or more very bad experiences, for example that his father was cruel or did hit his wife and/or son.
Of course this is only a theory, but if Lily really tried to be his conscience she has gone totally the wrong way!

What she did, is only critizing him. When you think she explained to him, well I can only see that she tried to force her own morals upon him. She didn't understand why he hated Muggles and called other people Mudbloods except of her and that's why she couldn't convince him of being wrong with his point of view.
It was always expected by Miss Evans that he understands her, because she is right, but she didn't try to understand him. Not even in order to help him. She blamed him for not understanding. He never blamed her! She abadoned him for a mistake, he was willing to excuse and to discuss about this incident.

Often people come up with the argument that you can compare their situation with one if you would be friend with an racist... but well...
When I have a friend that is a racist, then I would try to understand his/her reasons. What experience they made to think that way and when I have this knowledge, than I can better persuade him/her that not all foreigners are like that. That his/her point of view has some mistakes and isn't logical, even more when I'm myself would be a foreigner, too, but still he/she is my friend. You see my point?
It is right he never understood her arguments, because she didn't put enough effort in it, was never enough interested in his story, in his motives. She just judged about him, as she was the person who was always right, who knew it all. In fact she did know little about her so called 'best friend'.
I agree on the point, if Severus would really have understood why it isn't necessary to make the categories of superior and lesser people, he may not joined the Death Eaters, beside the reason that he ´lost´ Lily.

I don't love him for the point that he saw Muggles and Muggleborns as lesser people, I totaly agree here that this is wrong! As I said before I don't think of him being an angel, or that standart hero, that is represented much better by Potter -.-
It is the fact that he as a Slytherin, as a very selfish man, he developes into a person who risks his life for others. You may want to correct me that he only did all this stuff because of Lily and his vow to keep at least her son alife. But at this point think about this: If this was his only goal until the end, then why did he carry on his task when Dumbledore said to him, that Harry has to die?!? With this happening his task would have failed and he didn't try to save the boy and take him away, so he would be save in another country. Snape went on with his maskerade. He still did what Dumbledore wanted him to do in order to kill Voldemort and save thounsands of Muggles. At least the last year of his life he was a true hero, fighting for the people who hate him to the core or for the Muggles who will never know his sacrifice.


V.)  Everywere the people say, that Severus was to blame that the friendship ended, but has anyone ever thought about Lily's part? In my eyes it was as much her fault or even more than it was his.

He insulted her very badly which isn't right at all, even if it was in a very special situation, cause he didn't wanted to appear weak. But just a second after that she insults him, too, very badly. So quid pro quo, wouldn't it?
So why is everybody so upset about him calling her a Mudblood, that is in fact the worst word you can use for a Muggleborn, but no one cares about her calling him Snivellus, that was the worst name someone could call him! She makes jokes about his underpants that where showed to a crowd of people and humilated him with that as bad as James did. Right after that she leaves the scenerey and wouldn't care even if he's got beaten up very badly or if they would take his clothes off.
Lily of course had the right to be angry, but Severus didn't? I can't understand this kind of argumentation. They both did mistakes and they both should have the right to be furious about the other one.

At least Severus wasn't angry with her or overcame it very quickly and tried to apologize to her. He even threatend to sleep outside the Gryffindor Tower in order to only talk to Lily and to let her know that he was really sorry. It was HER who refused him and sent him away. She didn't wanted to hear his apologize, cause she had made her mind up to break up the friendship. She didn't gave him the chance to proof that he was really sorry for what happened. In the opposite to her cold rejection he was willing to forget her mistake, she wasn't.

There was no pity in Lily's voice. Please read this sentence again and say me where this holy and nice woman is here. She made excuses for him, but for what? Him being a Slytherin?? Yeah I understand that this must be some kind of a bad crime! And of course he never had to make excuses for her. Because it's for a Slytherin that want to become a Death Eater and who normally detest Muggles and Muggleborns, completely regular to be friends with a Muggleborn girl! There is no reason he would have had problems beause of their friendship! Sorry but this is rubbish. They both had friends that didn't like the other part and couldn't understand how they were still 'best friends'. It's not only her having a hard time, but did Severus complain about that? No he didn't in this talk. He didn't wanted to loose her, so he didn't said something against her.

Well if it's as far as that and she has to pretend being his friend than I would say she wasn't a real friend at all! But hey, it was all his fault that their friendship came to an end. She didn't want to think by herself about the fact that she was everytime the exception for him. He hated Gryffindors but liked her, even when she was in the same house. He detested Muggleborns and yet he liked her.She was't interested why she was special for him or what caused him to call her Mudblood. She didn't gave a thought about his emberassing situation and that he as a young man has already some pride that he wanted to protect by pretending not needing her help. For her it was again very easy to just see what she wanted to see and that was a Slytherin on his way to become a Death Eater who was mean to her.  Where is the kind and understanding girl of Lily Evans? I can't find it here! What I neither can find is that she gave him a chance to discuss this whole situation out. I would expect that when they both made mistakes that they argue a bit more about it, say what hurted them and what they didn't liked, to find a compromise in the end. She wasn't willing to do that, she let him stand there alone and that after such a 'great friendship' that lasted so many years.
So tell me now how can you really think that only Severus is to blame and has to pay for the rest of his life?!?

We all know what happened after their school time. He became a Death Eater while Lily and James, along with the others of their friends became members of the Order of the Phoenix. Unerstandable that during this time there was no contact between the two, but he took the first step again into her direction by changing sides.

He wanted to protect Lily and was even willing to protect the man he hated most, too, only when she would be save. He risked his life by betraying Voldemort and becoming a double-spy for Dumbledore. He did everything that was necessary to save her life and yet there is no single, little hint that she ever thanked him for this! It were his informations that made it possible to hide her family and she had some month left before she died in that Halloween night to try to talk to him. It would have been the perfect start to say sorry and thank you and try to be friends again. But she didn't mentioned him in her letter to Sirius that I wil show you now:

She cares about everybody. James, Harry, Sirius, Remus, Peter, Dumbledre and Bathilda. But no word about Severus. Of course there are people who think that she wrote him personally and that this wasn't in his memories. But that wouldn't make much sense. Why should he show Harry that he picked up an old letter that wasn't even for him, when he got his own one? Why wouldn't he show Harry that his mother was such a lovely creature and forgave him at last? This is just another proof for me that she wasn't interested in being friends with Snape anymore. She didn't care what was happening to him or in which mortal danger he was again, only because of her!


VI.)  Some of you may think that Lily wanted Severus und James to be friends. Beside the fact that this would be much more cruel, there is no hint of proof for this theory.
I want to explain first why I think that this behaviour would be worse than everything she did before: Snape and Potter hated each other to the core. They both fancied and loved the same woman. They were official rivals and jelaous of another. Snape always tried to find an oppertunity to denounce the Marauders so they would be expelled and on the contrary side they made his life a hell by bullying him every time they got bored. These two people can't become friends and forcing them both to act friendly only to please Lily, would be cruel. Even more when she was dating Potter and it was clear that he 'won the battle'. Everytime Severus would have been around the couple he would have been reminded that he lost his love to the boy he hates the most. They both would have wait for their chance to rip the other one to shreds. It was simply impossible.
On the other side she didn't cared about her former 'best friend' anymore. On the contrary, she married Potter, became close friends with Sirius, Remus and Peter. There was no space for the Slytherin in her now happy life. He would have been again a millstone around her neck, as he was before when her friends didn't understood why she hold up their friendship.
What I can't understand either is that some people think that Lily would wait for Severus in Heaven as an angel, or would guide him to Heaven. Even that she would thank him for everythin that he has done and that she admit that she loves him back.
Sorry this is rubbish! Perhaps she would have thanked him for protecting Harry, but do you really expect her to leave her husband for the man she sent off so many years ago? I know that I call her b**** but I would never think of her as a slut who would betray her so beloved husband that she choosed to marry, but this "bichty" behaviour was made up so often by her fans or Snily fans ect and it sucks. She was also in my eyes a "bitch" and in this case NOT a person who slept with every man or something, cause THIS she def. never did! But more a (in german we say - Miststück) a person you can't trust, who use you as long as she needs you, betray you, talk bad behind your back or to repudiate someone,  play a kind of game infront of you and act differently behind your back and so on... I hope you understand what I mean... sadly there is no real other translation for that kind of german word... :S

In fact I find it more probable that he can find a new love during his life if this woman is strong enough to live with his flaws and mistakes than that Lily would love him back the second he's in heaven. Cause she is in a solid relationship with her husband, he never had a relationship with her. Why shouldn't he been able to experience that with another woman that loves him back?


VII.)  Lily never deserved the love Severus offered to her.
Because he paid for the rest of his lifetime for a guilt/mistake to protect Harry, just cause of her and suffer in all of it. Is that fair? He made just one lil mistake and what did she? So many people call this life of Snape romantic, passionate and wonderful because it's such a big love story but to be honest: THAT isn't romantic, that isn't passionate, that it just poor, unfair and very sad! Would you want such a life? And if you want someone other to make such sacrefices as Snape did, then you're in my eyes very egoistic!
And it is right that there wouldn't be the storyline and the character of Severus Snape as we know him, if Lily wasn't how Rowling wrote her. If she would have done things different then the story would be different, right. But what does this have to do with me hating Lily because of her behavior? When I just have to love everybody that is important to the story I would have to love more than... 30 charas?!? Also if others mean that I am wrong when I hate Lily and that I do not understand the books/story of Rowling and the message she wants to tell us even if she made a lot of logical mistakes by herself. Over and over. In interviews she switch her opinions about characters and comes up with explanations that don't make sense anymore to the books. So sorry and then I should trust in her sooo great (in my eyes not existed - ) message?

But at the end I just can hope this shows clearly why I hate Lily Evans so much even there are many more points I could call. And I won't debate about this anymore cause I have said everything that I wanted to say. If you still have a different opinion than mine than have it and don't bother me with it, espacially not in the case of Lily! You won't convince me with a made up dream view of her, that can't be proofed by the book. I have read these passages multiple times and know what is written there.So I got MY! point of view. Keep yours and all of us will be fine.
